Back in early November of 2019, Emily, my mother-in-law, and I visited my family in Indonesia.

For those that do not know yet, I was born and raised in Indonesia. I moved to the United States when I was 12 and all of my family (parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, and uncles, everybody) is in Indonesia.

Emily and I try to go back to Indonesia once a year to visit with my family. Usually, we’d include some adventures along the way (i.e. Tumpak Sewu, Mt. Bromo, Bali, etc.), but this time, we were just focused on hanging out with my family in Jakarta during the entire 3 weeks there. We did end up doing some local weekend adventures around West Java however and it was too much fun.

Emily, Joseph, and I spent a week in Glacier National Park to hike, camp, and just to run wild around the park. This was the week after Labor Day weekend so there were not a lot of people around. We spent a total of 6 days and 5 nights in the park.

We mostly stayed at a free campsite outside of the park or for cheap on the Native Americans’ land overlooking one of the most beautiful views this park has to offer (be sure to purchase the Native American Land permit if you are planning to do this as well.) We hiked, swam, and hiked some more. Rarely slept. It was the best time.

a coast to coast road trip - pt. i - maine

june 2019

My friend Colin graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in the summer of 2019. He called me up and asked if I wanted to help him move back to his home in Portland after he graduates. Without hesitation, I accepted and booked my flight to the East Coast.

Just before Colin and I were about to begin our coast to coast road trip, we had to make a few stops in Maine for a few days before making our way West. For both Colin and I, Acadia National Park has always been on top of our National Park list to visit. So we made a few arrangements to stay at this beautiful rustic cabin in the middle of nowhere Maine, and there we went.

june 2019

I got to spend a week of summer in New York City for the first time! I brought my 35mm Leica m6 throughout this week and I got to photograph what life in NYC feels like in the span of one week.

This was my second visit to NYC but this was my first time spending a week of summer here. I got to stay with my friend Michael and it was a blast. He gave me his local insights on the city and I walked everywhere that week. I remember looking down at my phone and I averaged just over 15,000 steps per day. It was way too much fun.

october 2019

Back in October 2019, Emily and I decided to do a last-minute trip to a place we had always wanted to go to — Burgdorf Hot Spring. This hot spring has cabins that are over 100 years old that you can stay at for a very reasonable price, which was one of the biggest draws of this place, to begin with. Before I say more, check out this blog post/guide we created on how you can stay here — Everything You Need to Know About This Backcountry Hotsprings.

We first heard about Burgdorf from when we did a photo assignment with Visit Idaho back in Winter 2017. In the winter this place is not easily accessible due to snow and you’d need a snowmobile to get here. So spontaneously, we decided to give this a try before the snow covers every inch of this place. We then drove 5+ hours to get here and ended up spending 3 days at Burgdorf Hot Springs in the backcountry of Idaho. Most of these cabins are over 100 years old and we got to stay in one. These 3 days spent here, ended up to be one of the most relaxing vacations we’ve had in a while, granted we rarely take any vacations and do nothing. And that was exactly what we did — nothing.
